Botox Injections at Buckhead Clinic

It is the anti-wrinkle weapon of choice for over 5 million women and men every year.

You look in the mirror and notice that you look tired? The reason may be not only in your work schedule but also in mimic wrinkles. The crow's feet and the glabellar frown line give a grumpy and displeased look even unwillingly.

Injections of a neuromodulator with botox, which have been used in cosmetology for decades, help quickly solve this problem.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox is a neurotoxin medication that reduces muscle spasms and expression wrinkles.

Botox is produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. It produces several toxins that lose their activity during the manufacturing process of the drug. As a result, an active ingredient remains - Botulinum toxin type A (Botox®).
It is Botulinum toxin type A (Botox®) that reversibly blocks neuromuscular transmission, which prevents muscle contraction, wrinkles smoothing.

People casually use the term Botox to describe all of these botulinum toxin products, although Botox is a registered trademark owned by a company.

Botox - Cosmetic Uses

In 2002, the FDA approved the use of Botox for the cosmetic treatment of moderate and severe wrinkles between the eyebrows. The FDA approved it to treat wrinkles around the outer corners of the eyes (crow's feet) in 2013.

Historical Reference

The history of the use of Botulinum toxin type A (Botox®) in aesthetic medicine begins with the history of the accidental correction of wrinkles in the outer corners of the eye. In the late nineties of the last century, during clinical trials of a drug for the blepharospasm treatment (involuntary closing of the eyelid), one of the patients asked the doctor to perform an injection from the side of the healthy eye. To the researcher's surprised question, she pointed to a "side effect" - the eye not only stopped closing spontaneously, but the skin around the eyes tightened, and wrinkles, the so-called "crow's feet," smoothed out. And this accidental discovery made a revolution in the world of aesthetic medicine, opening the era of facial wrinkles correction by injections with botulinum toxin preparations. And for several decades now, wrinkles-rays around the eyes have been quickly and effectively responding to therapy.

Who is suitable for Botulinum toxin type A (Botox®) injection therapy?

In most cases, Botox is used to smooth out facial wrinkles in men and women.

  • vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows,
  • horizontal forehead wrinkles,
  • сrow's feet around the eyes,
  •  lip lines around the mouth,
  • sagged skin on the face in the cheeks and chin area
  • facelift
  • facial asymmetry correction;
  • neck folds correction.

How Does Botox Affect Your Body In The Long Term?

On average, the effect lasts from three months to a year and depends on the patient's individual characteristics. Increased mimic activity and stress reduce the effect of Botox.

How to Prepare for Botox Injections at Buckhead Clinic

The clinic doctor will conduct a general examination and discuss with you all the details of the upcoming procedure. The doctor also learns about your health problems and medication prescriptions.

Tell your doctor before Botox injections if:

  • You have had Botox injections in the past 4 months.
  • You are taking muscle relaxants, sleeping pills, or allergy medications.
  • You are taking blood thinners.
  • You do a face and neck massage.

Botox injections: Procedure Details

  • The procedure takes 10-15 minutes.
  • The skin is pre-cleansed and defatted.
  • The doctor uses a thin needle to inject botulinum toxin into the muscles under the skin. After the procedure, you may feel numbness at the site of the injection.

The initial effect of Botox appears within 2-5 days, and the final effect develops within 14 days. After the first procedure, the relaxation period lasts about 4-6 months. In this period, botulinum toxin is broken down in the body by enzymes, and the nerve endings restore their previous function. The next injection after 4+ months guarantees a long-lasting effect.
