Physical Exam at Buckhead Clinic
A physical exam is a comprehensive evaluation of your overall health that helps identify potential issues early, before they become more serious. Regular checkups allow your provider to detect and address health concerns at the earliest stage.
During your annual physical exam, you can:
- stay up to date with recommended vaccinations
- understand your risk factors for chronic conditions
- detect health issues that may not yet cause symptoms
- receive guidance on lifestyle changes to support your health
- save time and money by addressing potential concerns early
What Is Included in the Physical Check Up at Buckhead Clinic
Each physical exam is tailored to your age, medical history, and individual health needs.
Vital Sign Assessment
Vital signs are measurements of basic physiological functions that indicate the status of a person's essential body functions.
- blood pressure and pulse rate
- breathing rate
- body temperature
- general appearance, including skin, nails, reflexes, and muscle strength
- heart and lung exam
- head and neck exam - examination of the throat, lymph nodes, ears, and nose
- men have an additional examination of the testicles and penis for lumps and STDs. Older men should also have a prostate screening
- women have an additional examination of the breast and pelvic organs (vulva, vagina, cervix) for lumps and infections
These vital signs are routinely measured by healthcare professionals to monitor a patient's health status, identify potential medical issues, and determine appropriate treatments.
Laboratory Tests During Annual Physical Exam
There is no single standard set of lab tests for every patient. The following tests may be recommended based on your health needs:
- complete blood count
- chemistry panel
- urinalysis
- cholesterol levels
- blood sugar levels
- hepatitis C test
- testosterone levels (for men)
- prostate-specific antigen (PSA) (for men)
- pelvic exam, pap smear, and HPV (for women)
- mammography (for women)
- thyroid function tests
- electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG)
In addition, a physician may order a test that measures your bone density, ultrasound, and CT scan of specific organs.
How to Prepare for Your Physical Exam
Avoid alcohol the day before your visit. Some laboratory tests, such as blood sugar or cholesterol, may require fasting for accurate results.
You do not need to fast before your visit. If any tests require it, they can be completed later at a time that works best for you.
Our team will let you know which tests are needed and guide you through the next steps.
