Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that infect humans and animals. Some of them cause illnesses ranging in severity from the common cold to more serious conditions.
The most recently discovered coronavirus is responsible for coronavirus disease COVID-19. It has not been previously identified in humans. In December 2019, the outbreak began in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
COVID-19 is primarily an airborne disease. It is mainly transmitted from person to person via saliva droplets or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
